If you want to write a book,

you need a compelling book proposal

You've got a book idea. You're a great writer. But a proposal?

That sounds so...corporate.

You're willing to try, but where do you start?

Gifted writers end up with fabulous book ideas trapped inside while they try to piece together a book proposal on their own.

Many writers don't realize that the publishing industry makes decisions whether or not to publish a nonfiction book based on a business document known as a book proposal.

Inspired to share an idea or experience with the world, these writers thought they could simply finish the manuscript and send it off. When they heard the word "proposal" they froze, unsure how to start.

To creative people, a book proposal can sound corporate and complex. Trying to figure it out on their own, writers worry they aren't producing a compelling document capable of impressing decision-makers.

Some dive in with free templates found online and start plugging in content, but confusion or self-doubt overwhelms them and they set it aside for months, even years.

How many books never see the light of day because this step of creating a book proposal shuts the writer down?

But did you know that crafting a proposal serves the writer as much as it entices the publisher? It's true! The process of creating your proposal will pull that book out of you so it's clear and relevant—with a plan to reach its intended readers.

➤ If frustrated, frozen writers had guidance, they could start, work through the document section by section, and finish the thing.

➤ If they had instructions and a template, they'd feel confident completing the proposal be better prepared to pitch.

➤ If they grasped the power of proposals, they'd see how crafting one helps them express their concept and develop the project.

➤ If they had the process broken down into steps and paced out over several weeks, they could complete it in the midst of their busy days.

➤ If they had a coach who understood irresistible book proposals, they'd lean on that guidance to take the first step, and the next. They'd get that proposal done and out there, under consideration by agents and editors.

What if they invested in their project—in their writing life—so they could have what they need at the click of a button?

Is that you?

What if you invested in your project, in your writing life—in yourself?

If crafting proposal is the catalyst you need to articulate and organize your ideas, get that book out of you, and level up your career, wouldn't it be great if you had everything you need to craft your compelling book proposal?

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Proposal Training live or recorded?
The main 7-module proposal training is all recorded, so writers who choose the Self-Paced Study option can move through the material at their own pace. Those who add Proposal Support or Premium Proposal with Ann will have the main 7-module recorded training and add on the live element of one-on-one interaction with Ann, so that's a little of both! As soon as you sign up for any of level of YCBP you get immediate access to the recorded training. If you select Proposal Support or Premium Proposal Coaching with Ann, you'll schedule your first call and work toward that milestone, anticipating live input. You'll also get asynchronous but personalized interaction with Ann via Voxer with the Proposal Support and Premium Proposal Coaching options.
Are there payment plans?
The Proposal Support and Premium Proposal Coaching options offer payment plans. The Self-Paced Study option is a one-time fee.
Can I purchase the Self-Paced Study option and upgrade to Proposal Support later?
Yes, if you get going with the Self-Paced Study and realize you'd like Proposal Support from Ann—especially those six coaching calls and Voxer access—you can contact me (Ann) about upgrading. You'll pay the difference and we'll get started on those calls. To take that step, you can email me to make arrangements. You'll have my contact information from the confirmation email you'll receive as soon as you join any of the coaching options. Premium Proposal Support with Ann may still be an option, but because it's by application only and involves significant content and project review, we can discuss that when you email me.
What if I decide to leave Your Compelling Book Proposal? Can I get a refund?
I've committed to creating the best possible proposal program for you, no matter what level of support you're in. My hope is you'll find this exceeds your expectations, but if you find that Your Compelling Book Proposal isn't a good fit, email me within 30 days and I'll issue a full refund. If you join the Proposal Support option, achieve your goals rapidly, and for some reason do not wish to take advantage of all 6 of your one-hour coaching calls, there is no price reduction, but you aren't obligating to meet with me. If you need to end our arrangement prior to your six months of access to me, you may contact me to explain your situation and request, and you will be removed from all emails and end interaction with me. If this happens after the first 30 days, however, you will not be able to request a refund. If this happens before the end of 30 days and we have had several calls, we can discuss the details.
How long do I have access to the course?
Once you invest in any level of Your Compelling Book Proposal you have immediate access to the main 7-module training program. That material is yours for as long as the content remains online. One-month complimentary access to Your Platform Matters ends after the first month—you're welcome to remain in that membership community, but when you enroll using your one-month complimentary access link, you will automatically be charged the monthly fee the second month and beyond unless you contact me to unenroll and request to leave. Proposal Support clients also have ongoing access to the 7-module training content for as long as the content remains online. The coaching calls with Ann will need to be scheduled within six months of signing up. One-month complimentary access to Your Platform Matters ends after the first month for Proposal Support members, too—you're welcome to remain in that membership community, but when you enroll using your one-month complimentary access link, you will automatically be charged the monthly fee the second month and beyond unless you contact me to unenroll and request to leave. Premium Coaching Clients will also have ongoing access to the 7-module training content for as long as that remains online. The 1:1 coaching element is a six-month commitment, and access to working with me ends at that time. Premium Coaching Clients enjoy complimentary access to Your Platform Matters for six months to develop both their platform and proposal concurrently. When you enroll using your six-month complimentary access link, you will automatically be charged for another six months unless you contact me to unenroll and request to leave. And of course you'll enjoy the full proposal review at the end of six months.
Can I purchase the Self-Study or Proposal Support with Ann and apply for Premium Coaching later?
Yes, you can apply for Premium Coaching after investing in either the Self-Study or Proposal Support options. If approved, you'll be sent instructions to upgrade by paying the difference between your current program option (Self-Study or Proposal Support) and Premium Coaching. You will receive six months of Premium Coaching regardless of when you began your initial proposal program.
Is this the same as the Group Coaching program Ann used to offer?
Well, kind of. I discontinued the old 90-day and group coaching models because clients preferred to keep their book concepts private and could not fully benefit from group coaching. I found that switching to a one-on-one support model gave writers freedom to discuss the specifics of their project with me in our confidential 1:1 coaching setup.
Should I invest in Your Compelling Book Proposal if I have no online presence at all?
If you have no online presence, I suggest you first join my membership program, Your Platform Matters (YourPlatformMatters.com), to work on establishing and expanding your visibility so you can begin to reach and retain your ideal readers. The reason I recommend this is that the number one reason proposals are turned down is due to lack of platform. If you can establish that even a little bit, you can expand at the same time you develop your proposal and be better positioned to hear a "yes" when you meet with agents and acquisitions editors.
